Function of Osteocalcin and FGF23 as Bone Derived New Hormones
Choi Je-Yong

Abstract
Bone is a critical tissue for regulation of calcium and phosphorus homeostasis, protection of organs, hematopoiesis and locomotion together with muscle. Recently, bone and adipose tissue have been found as new endocrine tissues as traditional ones such as pancreas, ovary, testis, thyroid and parathyroid glands. steocalcin and FGF23 from bone play a key role as a component of bone-pancreas axis and bone-kidney axis, respectively. These findings support that bone can be a new endocrine tissue.
